Project Description: The new seven-story Patient Care Tower at Salem Hospital includes the Emergency Department, imaging, surgery, cath labs, four floors of patient rooms (120 rooms total) and more. NWESI provided TAB and commissioning services for this project. This building represents the first phase of a replacement facility for the aging hospital. The project followed the Green Guide for Health Care guidelines, recycling as much as possible during construction, installing energy & water saving equipment, and selecting durable building materials requiring less maintenance, among other measures.
NWESI Scope: Commissioned systems and equipment included new building HVAC (14 air handlers, 4 CRAC units, 64 exhaust fans, 4 fan coil units, 34 pumps, 13 return fans, 6 garage supply fans, 3 unit heaters), DDC control system, electrical distribution (2 medium voltage switchgear, 6 medium voltage transformers, 3 low voltage switchgear, numerous 480 V panels, 8 low voltage transformers, 4 motor control centers, 2 emergency switchgear, 2 generators, 19 automatic transfer switches, grounding and bonding, and power monitoring system), domestic hot water, lighting control, medical gases, and the fire alarm system (full integrated test). Solarc Architecture and Engineering assisted in commissioning of the electrical systems. NWESI also provided fire/smoke damper testing and certification a year after substantial completion.
